Getting started

I've registered at vds.selectel.ru. How can I create my first server?

Creating a server is simple. Detailed instructions can be found here.

I've created a server. How can I connect to it?

If you have Linux or MacOS installed on your computer, open the terminal and run the command ssh root@[server IP address]. If you're a Windows user, you will have to install the terminal client  PuTTy.

I can't remember my server password. What should I do?

If you don't have any necessary information on your servers, you can simply reinstall the operating system. Your new password will be generated during the reinstallation.

If you would rather preserve your server's contents, we recommend generating an SSH key and adding it to your server. You will then be able to connect to your server via SSH.

Can I connect via FTP?

FTP is not very secure and should be used sparingly. SFTP is available on all of our servers and is the recommended protocol.

What kind of IP address is assigned to servers when they're created: static or dynamic?

Servers are initially assigned a static IP address. This address will be attached to the server until it's deleted. If you reinstall an OS on the server, its IP address will not change after the installation.

Can I change my server's IP address?

No, this is not currently possible.

Can one server be assigned multiple IP addresses? How can I get additional IP addresses for an already created server?

Unfortunately, this is not currently available. Servers are assigned one and only one IPv4 address when they are created. We do not offer multiple IP addresses due to the limited IPv4 address space.
